City of San Marcos is surrounded by beautiful rolling hills and located in an area known as "Valley of Discovery" approximately 11 miles from the Pacific Ocean and 30 miles north of San Diego.  The climate averages mid 70's in the summer and in the mid 60's during winter. The population has grown to over 82,000 as of 2009 and is one of the fastest growing cities in San Diego County. The annual average rainfall is 15 inches with January being the wettest month. There are numerous educational opportunities in the area. Palomar Community College was established in San Marcos over 50 years ago and is known for having one of the best woodworking classes in the country.  San Marcos State University opened in 1989 and the new light rail system, the Sprinter, runs directly to the college for easy access for students. There are other colleges in nearby communites. San Marcos Unified School District holds several California Distinguished School awards.

There are many specialty stores, including the new Grand Plaza, large chains and warehouse stores such as Walmart and Costco along with numerous household furniture companies. San Marcos  is  known for having some of the best restaurants in North County San Diego. Old California Restaurant Row  has many restaurants offering a variety of cuisines and an Edwards Stadium 18 theater.  

Transportation is excellent as San Marcos is located along the
Sprinter commuter rail line, which services cities from Escondido to Oceanside. The Coaster is available from Oceanside to San Diego. There is easy access to Interstate 5 and 15, with several airports nearby, including Carlsbad/Palomar Airport (6 miles), San Diego Airport (35 miles) and Orange County Airport (60 miles).
